Noise + Thirst
“If white is all frequencies at once, Black is the color of silence.”
Note: Blackberry Archives will return in our next issue. In its place we’re excited to present an excerpt from the chapbook Noise+Thirst (FLOSS Editions, 2018) presented in conjunction with Weefur’s recent show at The Growlery in San Francisco. Noise + Thirst presents Blackness as an inhabitant of the space between noise & silence and thirst & satisfaction. The accompanying sound collage, a gestalt of Black masculinity, asks how closely must we scrutinize our Blackness to bear witness to a naturally occurring contrast? The excerpt includes text from Jamal Batts, Ismail Muhammad, Troy Lamarr Chew II, and Joshua Weefur, with images of Arrington “Ace” West.
